20 February 2012: Memories from Verona and Venice (December 2011)

From the last days of December, unexpectedly mild, unexpectedly warm light... I wanted to walk again along path that are familiar and rich of memories, as if everytime there is something new to look for and at the same time to discover again, merging with the past. Difficultly more than here memories overlap... Sometimes I like to think that we can feel some places and the promise to come there again.

Last month, in different ways and different occasions, I had the opportunity to renew, more than other times, the tradition of visiting some Christmas markets. This gave me the idea to create a new subsection on this particular cultural events that in some places around Europe preserves the spirit of an old popular tradition. There, the lights and the bright colors, the faces of the people and the known songs, the tastes that fill the cold winter air, the curious objects that sometimes you can find only at these markets, give an instantaneous feeling of gladness, and once more bring to the discover of the magic of the small things.

At the beginning of December, in particular, I planned a short trip in Alsace, touching not only one of the oldest Christmas Markets of the world, but also visiting some small amazing town that keep for the visitor who wants to explore them secret corners, where light, echoes and places seem to be anchored to the past.
